Iron: Guidelines to improve your child's intake

Learn what iron deficiency is and what kind of food you need to give your child to overcome iron deficiency.

 What is iron?

Iron is a mineral and is needed by everyone's body to function and make hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a red blood cell that causes oxygen to be transported to other parts of the body.

If a child is deficient in iron, it is called anemia.  This means that not enough oxygen is reaching the body's cells.  This causes the baby to turn pale and feel weak, tired and irritable.

What are the causes of iron deficiency or anemia in the body?

Babies need a constant supply of iron to grow up, otherwise the body becomes deficient in iron. Babies who do not eat iron-rich foods or whose body refuses to take iron will develop anemia.  Is

Which foods have the most iron?

Iron is found in animal and plant foods.

Iron obtained from animal sources is called hemi iron.  Our bodies are able to absorb heme iron better than non-heme iron.

Iron obtained from plants is called non-heme iron.  Our body needs non-heme iron when eaten with food because it contains vitamin C such as [malt juice, sangtra, prokli, strawberry, red or green chili, tomato sauce] or  Items should be eaten with meat.

The following table describes meat-based hemi-iron and non-meat-based non-hemi-iron foods.

Breast milk helps babies with anemia from 4 to 6 months of age, after which babies need iron from other sources, such as iron-rich cereals and meat.

If you have decided to bottle-feed your baby, give him iron-fed milk until he is one year old.  Don't use low iron milk.  These formulas do not contain enough iron to meet a child's iron needs.

It is important to make sure that the baby is getting enough iron, especially babies who are breastfed for six months. Start giving meat and iron-rich cereals as the first dose.  Do

If an iron serial is started at the age of six months, continue it till the age of 2 years.
